Tsunami Charleston Restauraunt logoTsunami is one of the many Japanese steakhouses in the Charleston area, but it is certainly one of the best. With the correct knowledge, it can be economical too.

Tsunami is decidedly an upper-end restaurant and has a tasteful atmosphere and carefully prepared dishes. Unlike other steakhouses, however, Tsunami is notable for its diverse menu. Though their excellent hibachi is one of their most notable meals, a wide range of sushi, seafood, noodle dishes, and several fusion influenced foods round out the menu. They also have a sizable selection of wines and beer, both domestic and Japanese.

Although most of the dishes are priced in the 20-40 dollar range, the savvy eater can cash in on some good deals. My personal favorites are the fried rice dishes – a heaping portion of rice with fresh peas, carrots, egg, and a generous serving of your choice of meat. It’s about as much food as a Hibachi entrée, but costs half that at 10 dollars. The sushi is also priced economically as well as most of the appetizer dishes, though the appetizers are too small to sate most people.

Interior of a Tsunami RestaurauntTsunami is located conveniently next to the Towne Centre shopping center, an important place in the Mount Pleasant real estate market. Here you can find a good portion of the business in Mount Pleasant. About twenty clothing stores, the Palmetto Grande movie theatre, many other good restaurants like the Atlanta Bread Company and On the Border, and Barnes and Noble’s gives a large selection of activities within walking distance of the restaurant.

Tsunami is located close to Snee Farm and Park West, two of the most important neighborhoods in the Charleston real estate market, as well as a host of others. With its close proximity to these large neighborhoods and located in the center of the town, it is a frequently visited restaurant but accommodates its visitors with a large bar and sitting area and several televisions.

My only complaint with the restaurant would be somewhat long waiting times, even when the restaurant is not particularly crowded. These can detract from the experience somewhat, but the setting, food, and location are more than enough to make up for this minor problem.
