MOMS’ BEER LOAF

SERVING SIZE: 6 | PREP TIME: 10 MINS | COOKING TIME: 1 HOUR

I found this in my grandmother, Frances Welch Shealy’s (Moms), recipes on a piece of scratch paper in her handwriting. It makes the most delicious, gorgeous loaf of bread. It can also be frozen and brought out later. Throw some butter on it and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-rising flour

  • ( 1 ) 12-ounce bottle beer of choice (I used a Pale Ale)

  • 3 tablespoons sugar

NOTE: I find that different types of beer change the flavor, so if you’re a beer lover, you’ll have an edge on the rest of us. When Moms made this, I doubt they had but a few different types of beer available. For a treat, slice the bread, cover in butter, and bake in oven at 350 until edges turn light brown. Makes a fabulous toast as a side for any meal.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients by hand.

  3. Pour batter into a greased 9.25 x 5.25– inch loaf pan.

  4. Bake for one hour.
